Last year I became a Community Captioner for the Gaiety Theatre here on the Isle of Man: it involved 3 1/2 days training and although I was shattered by the end of it, I absolutely love it and am so glad I put myself forward. I have captioned a few shows already: Flare Path, Glee and The Vagina Monologues (which was interesting - but I still hate the 'C' word!). Next month I'll be captioning The Full Monty and Avenue 'Q'. It's a bit scary at first, but lots of fun. If you would like to learn more about captioning, visit the Stagetext website.
This year I wanted to do something musical and decided to revisit the guitar having not played since primary school. I've had several guitar lessons with a local music teacher called Jake Pinnington. Now that he's got me started, I am happy to carry on alone. I've found several great resources on the web but my favourite so far is www.justinguitar.com. There's tonnes of videos and lessons. (There's also a section on the 'Ukulele' which will be my next challenge).
It doesn't matter what you choose to do. Just do something different, even if only for 5 minutes of your day. You'll feel better for it. x
